The Monty, Myles Goodwyn model guitar.

This is a one of a kind guitar that I had made by Brian Monty. The body is typical mahogany as is used in the making of Les Pauls and the fretboard is real ebony. The humbucker pickups are M.G./Tom Short customs that I have made for me. The middle pup is a Gibson single coil humbucker from a Firebird.

The simple 5 position pup selector I designed for the guitar.

The paint I chose is a nitrocellulose paint as used on vintage guitars. Wonderful look. Interestingly, the very early Gibson guitars were painted with acrylic paint, the same as on cars! The color choices were basic car colors. The finish on this guitar is a “tobacco burst finish.” The darkest areas like the shoulders and neck are a very dark, almost brown/black.

There`s nothing really unique about the style of the guitar but it`s a familiar Gibson style I like very much. It is not heavy. It plays smoothly and is great for blues. Or jazz.

Brian Greenway had his Monty guitar stolen several years ago and it still hasn`t surfaced. Damn shame about that.

PS  sorry pictures are wrong side up, I`ll work on that. LOL

I’d be afraid to take that one out on the road.

How long ago was it made?

Guitar`s about 6 years old I guess. I only ever used it once live. Will use for blues shows if I ever get around to it. lol

Very nice guitar, Myles. Very cool on the “Myles Goodwyn” signature in the headstock.

I remember Brian’s Monty….it had “April Wine 30th” in the headstock. As you said it still has not resurfaced. My guess it is hidden in someone basement, as nobody will ever be able to take it to a guitar shop or play it in public.

This reminds me of the epiphone nighthawk…..Brians was more like an LP. I like this guitar…I would shed the pick guard however!

Interesting, but I do not see the Nighthawk resemblance. It like a L.P. TV model, or even a 50`s L.P. Jr, single cutaway. Of course I own all of these models. haha

The pick up selector I guess is what looks like the nighthawk and knobs…..yes I do see the resemblance to a junior. does myles have a junior? never seen a pic of him playing one but with all those guitars he surely must have one!
