There is so much being said in recent months about cables on the various forums i frequent and in the magazines... wether or not there is any difference and if there is does it warrant the extra cost... is it snake oil or venom... well that being said there has been some discussion right here about cables... Brian has sung the praises of the Evidence Audio Melody as have some other players who are members here. i have sung the praises of the Monster Cables Studio Pro 1000 series of cables along with some other brands.

Some players swear they here no difference between the el'cheapo $10 econo cables as compared to cables costin 10 or even 15 times more. Audiophiles are saying it matters while otheres are calling bullshit. Simply put some tests show a $10 cable performs exactly as a $150 cable while other tests say there is a marked difference.

Well I say enough is enough ( cheesy pun I admit it ) I'm doing my own cable roundup and comparrison. To set things straight I'm not a multi million dollar corperation, nor am i offering advertising to the masses, I will not gain from this finacially... in fact it's gonna cost me a few bucks... but my studio needs some cables anyways... yeah right... I'm simply doing this cuz i want to and feel it will be an interesting exercise.

I have around 10 different cables at my disposal and am currently making efforts to add to that. If there are any cable you would like to see in this face off let me know and i will consider them. There will be cables by Planet Waves, monster, Evidence Audio, PRS and some el'cheapos from Radial, Rapco and others.

I'll use the same guitar... PRS SC245 10 top and amp... Randall Lynch Box. I will use three categories of tone... Clean, mid gain and high gain.

I will allow some time for responce from members here and also to gather up some more cables then record the results at my home studio TransAtlantic Studios/The Underground. Post them here and other forums i frequent and gather results through a poll then post the results, comments and feedback.

Sound Cool?

Look for this in the coming few weeks.

Cheers

So far I'm very happy with the responces I'm geting from the various cable manufacturers I've approached. Looks like the Guitar Cable Face Off is shaping up to be very cool.

Go to facebook and search guitar cable face off and join the group to get in on the action... there will definetly be a great giveaway the guitar players here will not want to miss out on.

Cheers

Don't forget the Electric/Acoustic guitars and Basses. That's where Evidence Audio really shines.

I may do those at as later date... especially bass cables... the market seems flooded with electric guitar cables and the information and opinions that surrounds it all.
If I do the bass Cable Face Off i will get Sonic Diplomat's Bass player Al Caisse to man the helm.

This is actually quite time consuming however at the same time a lot of fun as I enjoy this sort of stuff. The responce i'm getting from manufacturers and end uses is quite encouraging.

Tried them all and never heard a difference. We did a test of about 6 different cables on a Dumble ODS and I could not hear any difference at all. Once I hit forty a few years ago, I can't hear as well as I used to.

LOL  though it's not really funny... Dave I hear a huge difference from cable to cable but really it seems as thought a lot of people do not. Admittedly some cables are very similar however to my ears  Planet Waves and a Monster are like night and day.
