After the departure of the Henman brothers, Jerry Mercer of Mashmakhan was recruited and added to the lineup in 1973 to replace Ritchie Henman on drums. Jerry was a veteran drummer, becoming a mainstay while the band's lineup finally solidified during the late 70's.

Believe it or not, Jerry used to be a cattle farmer and a computer programmer for IBM before deciding to quit and become a full time drummer! He's sometimes jokingly referred to as "Mr. Clean," because of the shaved head that resembles the character on the cleaner.

Jerry's live drum solos are legendary, often accompanied by a relentless strobe-induced light show. Even after battling some major health problems in the late 90's, Jerry's energy seems unending despite being the senior member of the band.
